VisionWeb Announces 'Lab of the Year' Honorees
November 11, 2006 | Return to the Top

VisionWeb announced the recipients of its Lab of the Year program here on the opening day of OLA 2006. This year’s honorees are Balester Optical, Wilkes- Barre, Pa., Custom Eyes, Sauk Rapids, Minn., and Enterprise Optical, Madison Heights, Mich. The labs will be given plaques acknowledging their recognition, and will be featured in a “Lab of the Year” section at
www.visionweb.com.

Ron Barnes, vice president of sales and marketing for VisionWeb, said, “We are pleased that the top optical labs are utilizing our services to help streamline their order fulfillment processes. These three honorees have embraced our technology and are leading the way for the hundreds of labs in our supplier network.”

To determine the labs honored this year, VisionWeb measured each lab’s ability to convert their customer’s orders to VisionWeb from the phone, fax, or other methods, and to retain and grow their customers’ VisionWeb usage. The Internet technology provider also measured the labs’ ability to support VisionWeb usage through marketing efforts and sales promotions. Also, VisionWeb added a percentage vote from its members in process held from June through September of this year.

VisionWeb introduced its lab recognition program last year to encourage and reward labs that have shown exemplary results in growing and maintaining customer loyalty using VisionWeb. The company provides a variety of technology services to the optical community, including direct-to-supplier online ordering and tracking, multi-payer insurance transaction processing, and customizable websites for labs, eyecare professionals, and optical manufacturers.

Technology Transformations: Ellicott City Eye Care
June 19, 2006 | Return to the Top

Ellicott City Eye Care
City , State: Ellicott City , Md.
Key Executives: Lisa Hamilton, billing specialistand Michael Robin, OD
Number of Locations: 1
Year Founded: 1991
ELLICOTT CITY, Md.--When billing specialist Lisa Hamilton arrived at Ellicott City Eye Care over six years ago, the doctor was still doing paper claims. But, the system wasn't working well, Hamilton confessed. "We needed something more efficient. It's a very busy private practice." About a year and a half ago, Hamilton tackled the problem by switching to VisionWeb, which eliminated the paperwork and streamlined the billing process.

"I don't have time to just sit down and bill," said Hamilton. "I need to be able to do it among the eight other things I am doing." With VisionWeb, Hamilton said, "It's a very simple and cost-effective way to bill and get reimbursed. Some insurance companies take anywhere from 30 to 120 days to pay and things get lost in the mail," she said. "VisionWeb is 10 times faster than any mailing process. It takes all the gray out. You know exactly where the claim is and where it stands," said Hamilton.

Instead of having to go to individual insurances for billing, for example, Hamilton can use VisionWeb to facilitate the process for each of them. She doesn't have to worry about whether the claim is lost in the mail or if the claim will be kicked back because something was missing on the paperwork. Hamilton says that she can easily track the status of claims and will know right away if the claim has passed, if it's in progress or if it is being sent back for a code or for other missing information. Even getting started is easy, says Hamilton. "My experience with VisionWeb has been a pleasant one. The tech support is great. They walk you though everything. They have a designated medical biller. It's a very simple, non-complicated process and it's just very easy to use," she said. When setting the system up, VisionWeb's tech support helped her add payers so that claims for Medicare and Blue Cross, for example, would be processed without a hitch. "For a lot of doctors who have small practices, who can't afford a biller and sometimes use a third party or are doing paper claims, this is an affordable and convenient way to get reimbursed from the insurances," said Hamilton.
Ellicott City Eye Care's ultimate goal is to go completely paperless so Hamilton is looking for a good practice management program. "I don't have a lot of time to sit and input patients," said Hamilton. A good practice management system would also help her recall patients, she noted.

VisionWeb Integrates with MSF Computing's Software for ODs, Opticians
May 4, 2006 | Return to the Top

VisionWeb Integrates with MSF Computing's Software for ODs, Opticians AUSTIN, Texas--Industry Internet portal VisionWeb and MSF Computing, provider of IFILE, CFILE, and Vision + practice management software, have agreed that users of these systems can now order prescription spectacle lenses to their labs using VisionWeb technology.

VisionWeb and MSF Computing have created a seamless interface allowing users to place and track spectacle lens orders from within the IFILE, CFILE, and Vision + software.

Said Mike O'Malley, vice president of business development for VisionWeb, "We are pleased to offer IFILE, CFILE, and Vision + customers the ability to place spectacle lens orders electronically to the VisionWeb network of over 210 U.S. spectacle lens laboratories."

MSF Computing's IFILE, CFILE, and Vision + systems serve different customers and offer different features for optometrists and opticians. IFILE offers a practice-management system for ODs, including appointment scheduling, paperless examinations, inventory control, order entry recording and automatic invoicing and others. The CFILE system, for opticians and optical stores, includes full inventory control, order entry and automatic invoicing, electronic ordering to labs and electronic claims submissions.

The Vision + system is a pre-packaged version of the CFILE system that provides a point-of-sale software system for opticians at a lower cost. "Our integration with VisionWeb will allow our customers to reduce redundant data entry and streamline the process for placing spectacle lens orders to their labs," said Scott Farley, owner of Kitchener, Ontario-based MSF Computing.
IFILE, CFILE, and Vision + customers may also file insurance claim reimbursements with VisionWeb's online insurance claim processing service, VisionWeb Enhanced. All three systems create an HIPAA-compliant HCFA file that can be directly uploaded and submitted through VisionWeb Enhanced, allowing the customer to avoid re-keying any claim information.

VisionWeb Links With Walman, Adds Integrations
April 24, 2006 | Return to the Top

NEW YORK--Celebrating the fourth anniversary of its founding at last month's Vision Expo East, VisionWeb announced a new agreement with Walman Optical designed to allow direct ordering of prescription lenses to Walman and Soderberg Optical laboratories through the industry Internet portal. VisionWeb also has signed agreements for two new integrations with practice-management systems for online lens ordering.

Through the deal with Walman, eyecare providers will be able to order Rx lenses from any of the 33 Walman and Soderberg optical labs electronically, via visionweb.com or any practice-management system integrated with VisionWeb. ECPs using visionweb.com will get full access to features such as online order status and tracking.
VisionWeb customers who are members of the Walman and Soderberg-operated buying groups will continue to receive their buying-group discounts when ordering through VisionWeb.
"VisionWeb's electronic ordering service will expand the options available to our customers to place orders to Walman and Soderberg labs in an efficient and convenient way," said Marty Bassett, Walman's chief executive officer.

Jeff Saddington, president and CEO of VisionWeb, said the Walman and Soderberg labs join 210 laboratories already receiving lens orders via VisionWeb. That roster will grow to 243 when the integration with Walman begins during the second quarter.

Through other new agreements, VisionWeb will interface with EMRlogic's OD Professional practice-management software, and with Crowell Systems' Medformix software, so system subscribers can place Rx lens orders through VisionWeb. In addition, VisionWeb is launching RouteONE, new software designed to simplify communication from practice-management systems to its network of optical labs.

VisionWeb is also kicking off its second-annual "Lab of the Year" program, this year with expanded criteria for determining annual honorees. Ron Barnes, vice president of sales and marketing, said new criteria include an evaluation of a lab's support of VisionWeb through marketing and sales promotion, and votes by VisionWeb members. The award will be presented at the November Optical Laboratories Association meeting.

Noted Saddington, "After four years, we think VisionWeb has achieved a critical mass. Our reputation is growing, and we hope we are viewed as a company that will help suppliers, eyecare practitioners and practice management firms be the best they can be."
